what others are saying
How sensible. Simple and balanced. Like the advice of not exercising straight away. Very uncomplicated.

A few months after giving birth, a swimsuit is the last thing most women want to see. As for wearing one at the beach - that's a definite no-no.

Mum-of-two, Susie Maroney, knows that post-baby weight loss can be a marathon, but this time round she looked for a quicker swim - and found it.

Now just 58 kilos, which is her pre-baby weight - Susie's happy to flaunt her new body and share her secrets.

Susie's not spruiking any weight loss company, products or diets - she lost the weight on her own with no dieticians, trainers or home delivered meals.

"I never believe in those gimmicks where you know you're taking vitamins or you're taking that powder that you drink and you're not eating food because eventually you're going to have to eat," says Susie.

"Reading that you've got to take lemon juice or you've to have this and that, don't do that to your head, that'll drive you mad."

Susie met her new husband Darren just weeks before she fell pregnant for a second time with new baby Capri. Then the couple had to face down those very public revelations he'd spent time in jail.

"A lot of people said oh I don't know if that will work with the background and everything but it's just amazing," she says.

Susie's Weight Loss Regime

Exercise: Don't start exercising until around one month after the birth

"I think that once you start by eating healthy food after the birth, then in a few weeks when you're feeling good you should start exercising," Susie says.

"Exercise was every day for thirty minutes and then I started stepping it up and doing it every second day, but doing it for a longer time."

Diet: Simple, healthy food

• For breakfast, two Weetbix.

• Morning tea an apple.

• Lunch a salad sandwich.

• Afternoon tea an apple.

• Dinner is vegetables and a very small piece of meat.

Susie says she also has a trick to help her stay away from the fridge. "Yeah, I had photos up of Stefi Graff, so every time I go to the fridge and see her body I am motivated and not tempted to stray," she says.

Susie's also a strong believer in rewards - for her it's a quick sugar hit once a day.

"Ten lollies - that's nothing because you are eating so well through the day, so it won't do anything for you but make you happy."

As a former athlete, Susie knows what to eat and how to exercise. She swam from England to France and back again at age 17. Years later, a 38-hour swim from Mexico to Cuba.
