Meet the human faces of Australia's housing crisis.
This family of 10 has been living in a small van as they wait for accommodation.
But thankfully, things are about to change.
Housing NSW statement:
Housing NSW had identified a property that it believes will be suitable for this family. Unfortunately, it will take longer than anticipated for the property to be habitable due to damage caused by vandals. Housing NSW is undertaking work to repair the property and is also looking at alternative properties for this family as a matter of priority.
In the meantime, Housing NSW has extended temporary accommodation for the family until Friday. Temporary accommodation is granted on the condition that applicants simultaneously continue to look at options for resolving their own accommodation needs.
If the applicant meets these obligations, Housing NSW will consider a further extension. Housing NSW has currently approved 38 days of temporary accommodation, well above the normal 28 days limit, based on the family’s circumstances.
Housing NSW will continue working closely with this family in order to help them find long-term accommodation.
