Honey remedies

Most of us love a bit of honey on our toast - but what if it could also be the answer to a range of health problems? A Current Affair reveals the latest medical treatments using one of the oldest ingredients on earth.

Inneke Stevens is a clinical nurse who deals with wound and burn patients.

She swears by the use of special medical grade dressings, in which honey is the primary ingredient.

But you can't use just any honey in an open wound. Stevens uses treated Medihoney.

"Chronic wounds can take three months or longer to heal - the wounds I've dealt with have showed an improvement in four to six weeks," she said.

The Medihoney range includes dressings, creams and lotions that can be used on simple cuts and scratches at home.

They're all derived from Manuka honey, which has long been praised for its health benefits.

More information about Medihoney can be found at www.comvita.com.au
