Weight loss: is it all in the mind?

Fri 07/07/06

Everyone knows diet and exercise will help you lose weight but Mark Stephens claims his do-it-yourself hypnosis kit, Think Slim, can trick your mind into helping you shed kilos.

"People have been getting it wrong for a long time. Diets do work — it's the sticking to them that's the problem and people try to stick to them with will power, and it's a bit like taking a battering ram to knock down the Great Wall of China — it's not going to work," Mark says.

Mark says for too long people have been blaming their stomachs for their weight gain when it's actually their brain at fault.

"A lot of people eat because they're lonely, they're depressed, they're bored, because they're sad — and all these negative emotions contribute to obesity," he says.

Mark says his Think Slim program helps people overcome these negative patterns without feeling like they're dieting.

He emphasises the importance of drinking water and says that often people think they are hungry when really their body is just thirsty.

Narelle McNevin listens to Mark's inspirational hypnotherapy CDs every day. She's lost 20 kilos in four months.

"I used to love chips but I can't even touch them now," she says.

Dennis McClaren, another success story, was a non-believer.

"I felt dubious, like all weight programs," he says.

But after a few sessions with Mark in his head, he too had lost 20 kilos.

"It is a case of mind over matter," says Mark.
