Businessman Justin Herald started with just an idea.

Today, he's a massively successful businessman who has taken his clothing label Attitude to new heights and he thinks that anyone with a good idea can turn that into a personal fortune.

"Ideas are like armpits, everyone has two and they think sometimes, so for me I am what I am," Mr Herald said.

"Some people like me some people don't, but I don't really care. I enjoy doing it and I don't find it that hard. Business for me is one plus one equals two."

Mr Herald sees the key to being in charge of your own business is to simply have fun.

"Are you enjoying yourself now, and are you making money," Mr Herald said.

"Two questions you've got to ask yourself. And if both answers are yes, you're on the right track, and if both answers are no, you're on the wrong track."

Mr Herald has a new book So you have a great idea for a business now what as well as a website he hopes can teach aspiring business owners a thing or two.

He also doesn't think you need to be the smartest person in the world to start your own business.

He's mentoring over a dozen small businesses and offering his inside tips on how to succeed.

"There's two ways businesses can go broke, one they don't make enough money, the other is they make too much money too quick," Mr Herald said.

"Small business as you know is all about cash flow, its about trying not to put yourself into a hole."
