Garage sales are back, and they can set the profits rolling into your backyard.
As we saw on tonight's show, Alanah made $500 in five hours, and that's because she followed the golden rules for holding a garage sale.
Greg Braithwaite from www.whatgaragesale.com.au says you need to price your items to sell and be prepared to bargain.
"Start at $5. If someone doesn't want to pay $5, $4, $3, you don't want to be putting away again at the end of the day," he says.
Here are some of his tips:
Rule # 1: Be flexible
"People are looking for bargains at garage sales. So always price your items a little bit higher and prepare to get haggled down".
Rule # 2: Advertise, Advertise, Advertise
"Newspaper, internet, your friends, family, social networking sites. Just get your message out".
Rule # 3: Keep It Tidy
"Group similar items together. Keep them high if you can, keep them on tables".
Rule # 4: Lock Your House
"Just be really conscious about security. 99 per cent of people are just genuine people, but you don't want to lose anything to anyone."
But... if you don't have a garage, of if you enjoy the atmosphere at the markets, why not sell your pre-loved treasure at the markets.
